FTP ähnliches
Protokoll für Dateiübertragungen und Zugriffsregelungen in heterogenen Netzwerken, spezifiziert in den ISO-Standards 8571 und 8824/8825.
Das Wesentliche an FTAM ist die einheitliche Behandlung unterschiedlicher Dateisysteme (sog. virtueller Filestore).
Aufgabe der FTAM-Anwendung ist es, diese virtuelle
Beschreibung von Dateien auf das reale Dateisystem des jeweiligen
Systems abzubilden. Die unterschiedlichen Dienste von FTAM (
Übertragen,
Löschen,
Anzeigen und
Kopieren von Dateien) stehen dabei als kleinste
Bausteine bereit, müssen aber nicht zu jeder Zeit und für jede Datei verfügbar sein (so muss eine Datei z. B. nur für den Zugriff auf ihren Inhalt geöffnet sein, nicht aber für das Lesen ihrer Attribute).
